Velfruct Prim: from the heart of Moldovan orchards to shelves around the world

Moldova continues to conquer international markets step by step with the authentic taste of its fruits. In 2024, edible fruits and nuts accounted for 6.57% of the country’s total exports, with more than 266,000 tons delivered, mainly to Europe. These figures speak of an agricultural potential worth pursuing – and Velfruct Prim company is one of the defining stories, Invest Moldova Agency reports.

At the 2024 edition of the Fruit Attraction international trade fair in Madrid, the Republic of Moldova managed to consolidate its position on the map of global exporters, being represented by 12 member companies of the Moldova Fruct Association, specialized in the production and export of fresh fruits such as apples, plums and grapes. The event took place in an extremely favorable context for the Moldovan agricultural sector, which has continued to make significant progress on foreign markets. Velfruct Prim was among the companies that signed export contracts for significant sums.

With the support of the Invest Moldova Agency, Velfruct Prim had the chance to present its products in a prestigious setting, alongside the biggest players in the agri-food industry. At the end of the event, Velfruct Prim signed an export contract of 1 million euro, an immediate result, which recognized and confirmed both the quality of the company’s fruits and the professionalism of the preparation and participation at Fruit Attraction.

With over 15,000 tons of fruit exported annually, Velfruct Prim is one of the largest producers and exporters in the Republic of Moldova, a true ambassador of authentic Moldovan taste. Founded in 2010, the company has grown rapidly thanks to a modern approach to agriculture and a strong commitment to quality and sustainability.

Owning its own plantations of 70 hectares, cultivated with varieties such as Gala, Fuji, Golden Delicious, Granny Smith and Red Chief, Velfruct Prim uses super-intensive technologies that allow it to fulfill large orders in line with the requirements of international markets. The company currently exports fruits to over 15 countries, including Germany, the UK, Spain, the Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Romania, the United Arab Emirates and Oman, with a clear direction towards expansion into Asian markets – especially India, an area with significant strategic potential.

Exports in 2024 – between challenges and performance

The year 2024 was not without its challenges. The spring frosts tested farmers’ capacities, but Velfruct Prim proved that technology, adaptability and international certifications can keep things on the right track even in difficult times. “Challenges remain – from high logistical costs to the need to build a common agreed national brand and strengthen unity among producers,” says Pavel Vieru from Velfruct Prim. Thanks to GLOBALG.A.P., IFS international certification (the only and first company in the Republic of Moldova to hold such a certification) and developing logistics solutions, the company remains competitive in demanding markets, despite challenges related to the lack of accessible and fast logistics.

“The Investment Agency offers access to countless opportunities. From collaborating with Moldova’s diplomatic missions abroad, international and local chambers of commerce, as well as contacts with international networks, the institution is of great help when you want to expand your business, itself by being able to coordinate processes faster and more efficiently.”

Moldova, a country with a taste for export

From apples and plums to cherries, Moldovan fruit is gaining more and more ground on the tables of European consumers. This is not the result of chance, but of a sustained effort – built step by step through constant participation in international trade fairs and strategic economic missions. A relevant example is the company Velfruct Prim, which was present last year at an export mission to Germany, where it succeeded in initiating promising partnerships with players in the European retail sector.
