Discover three Moldovan farmers—Ana Ciobanu, Igor Golban, and Ecaterina Medic—alongside the remarkable growth story of the ”Brutaria Bardar,” a bakery that now sells its signature pies in Lidl Romania’s network of over 380 supermarkets, in an article published by The European Investment Bank.
The European Investment Bank (EIB) continues to strengthen Moldova’s agricultural sector through the Livada Moldovei credit line. This initiative enables local entrepreneurs to modernize operations, increase productivity, and create sustainable workplaces.
Ana Ciobanu modernizes her vineyard with a pergola support system on her three-hectare estate. She obtains funding from the EIB and applies advanced cultivation methods to boost the health of her vines and enhance the quality of her grapes.
Igor Golban expands his farm by developing a new product line that includes natural juices, vegan milk, and dried fruits. He hires additional staff and scales operations, supported by favorable financing conditions from the Livada Moldovei program.
Ecaterina Medic plants a new vineyard across 21 hectares and generates eight permanent jobs in her village. Her initiative exemplifies the role of local farming in strengthening Moldova’s rural economy.

Meanwhile, Moldovan producers expand their reach into the European market. The ”Brutaria Bardar,” a recipient of EU grants for re-technologization and energy efficiency, upgrades its facilities, installs photovoltaic panels, and aligns with ISO food safety standards. The bakery now distributes its pies not only in Romania through Lidl’s national network but also exports to Germany, France, and Ireland.
