President Maia Sandu arrived at the Vatican, where she will be received in audience by Pope Leon XIV, following her visit to Italy.
The discussions will focus on promoting peace, solidarity, and Christian values in an international context marked by tensions. Maia Sandu will also meet with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, the Vatican’s Secretary of State.
The visit forms part of Moldova’s efforts to strengthen external partnerships and contribute to regional and European security.
On Wednesday, September 10, President Sandu met in Rome with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Senate President Ignazio La Russa. Their talks centered on strengthening Moldova–Italy cooperation in economic, development, and security fields, as well as joint efforts in support of European peace and stability.
