(VIDEO) Mihaesh and Cashu on RLIVE TV: Authorities must communicate with Moldovans about the importance of the referendum

Political analyst Ilian Cashu stated in the RLIVE TV studio that the authorities should discuss the referendum on European integration’s importance with Moldovans. In his turn, the lawyer Roman Mihaesh pointed out that the desire to join the EU is the will of both Moldovan politicians and the Brussels authorities.

According to Cashu, the referendum is an exercise in competition. At the same time, in his opinion, the authorities need to talk to skeptical Moldovans about the advantages of our country’s accession to the European Union.

“Some citizens do not understand this referendum because those who initiated it need to make an effort to communicate. They must base this communication on grassroots efforts. If the citizen is against it at the first discussion, it means that the ruling party and civil society partners have to discuss it five or seven times to convince him,” said Cashu.

At the same time, Roman Mihaesh said that the referendum is the political will of the Chisinau authorities. The jurist believes the European Union is ready to welcome Moldova into its membership.

“It is for the people to decide, to arbitrate. Left-wing politicians always said that the people should decide whether we integrate into Europe or not. Now, people have the opportunity. Right-wing politicians have forced left-wing politicians to play their game. (…) It’s already been 15 years since they want a referendum for the people to decide whether we integrate. Now, they are calling for a boycott. I don’t understand these politicians,” said Mihaesh.

Presidential elections and the EU accession referendum are due in Moldova on October 20. Authorities expect to spend more than 300 million lei for both rounds.
