“No acts of coercion characteristic of rape were identified.” This is the statement made by Interior Minister Daniella Misail-Nichitin after a mother and her daughter were found dead in a cornfield in Rezina district. The woman had previously filed a complaint with the police against a 51-year-old man, accusing him of allegedly raping her daughter. The man is also suspected of killing the two women.

“We have an ongoing criminal investigation into the murder, and a separate criminal case was also initiated based on the complaint filed by the mother at that time. However, following the forensic medical examination and biological analyses, no acts of coercion characteristic of rape were identified. The analysis of the biological material also found no evidence of sexual intercourse. For this reason, the criminal case was not pursued on that basis, and coercive measures such as the suspect’s detention were not applied. In cases of this kind, all requests for such measures, especially in offences involving sexual crimes, are submitted to the court by prosecutors, including applications for arrest,” Daniella Misail-Nichitin said on Nicolae Chicu’s podcast.

The victims were found dead in a cornfield in a locality in Rezina district. Police were notified of the case on September 19. Following an investigation, a 51-year-old man was detained on suspicion of involvement in the crime and was subsequently placed in pre-trial detention.
