(VIDEO) Popsoi: Chisinau and Israel Discuss Transit of Hasidic Pilgrims Through Moldova in 2025

Authorities in Chisinau are currently holding discussions with Israeli officials regarding the transit of Hasidic Jews through Moldova during their annual pilgrimage to Uman, Ukraine, scheduled for autumn 2025, announced Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi.

The Moldovan official emphasized that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure that the pilgrimage proceeds smoothly and without disruptions on Moldovan territory.

“We want a fair, transparent process, as it has been in previous years. We want things to proceed legally, fairly, so that there are no disruptions on the territory of the Republic of Moldova,” said Popsoi.

According to him, discussions are still underway, and any official decisions will be made public once finalized.

Each year, at the end of September, thousands of Hasidic Jews travel to Uman to visit the tomb of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov, a revered figure in Hasidic Judaism. Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, Moldova has played a critical role in facilitating the transit of pilgrims.

Popsoi also noted that Israel still owes approximately $200,000 to Moldova for support provided during previous pilgrimages.
