The two decoy drones found over the weekend in Moldova pose no threat to citizens, according to President Maia Sandu, who made the statements following a Supreme Security Council (SSC) meeting.
President Sandu emphasized that authorities have secured Moldova’s airspace since the start of the war in Ukraine. She also noted that investment in protective systems is still needed to ensure citizens’ safety.
“From the first day of the war, we have worked to protect Moldova’s airspace. We made recent purchases to detect and prevent situations that could endanger citizens. Based on reports from our institutions, these drones do not pose any danger. However, we must stay vigilant and continue to acquire the necessary technology to ensure everyone’s safety,” President Sandu stated.

Authorities discovered the drones in the Riscani and Causeni districts on Sunday. Initial investigations confirmed they were decoy devices accompanying “Shahed” drones, with no explosives attached. It appears that Russian forces launched them on Saturday night during an attack on Ukraine.
In response, police urged citizens to avoid approaching or touching any suspicious aircraft or devices they may find and to immediately call 112.
