The Presidential Institution Leads by Example in Resource Conservation, Significantly Reducing Electricity Consumption in the First Nine Months of 2024.
During a press conference on Tuesday, January 14, President Maia Sandu urged citizens and public institutions to conserve electricity, particularly during peak hours.
“For the right bank, we need to continue, as I’ve said before, investing in renewable energy, improving energy efficiency, and optimizing consumption.
Once again, I want to thank those who understand the situation we’re facing and have managed to reduce consumption. I urge everyone to continue using energy judiciously. It applies to public institutions, their leaders, and employees. Each of us can contribute to keeping costs from rising.

At the Presidency, we managed to reduce electricity consumption by 12% in the first nine months of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, and we will continue to decrease consumption,” stated Maia Sandu.
As of January 1, 2025, Transnistria has been in an energy crisis after Gazprom halted gas supplies to the region. The already tense situation has led to a blame game between Chisinau, Tiraspol, and Moscow. On December 16, 2024, a crisis was declared in Moldova’s energy sector, and electricity and heating tariffs have risen significantly.
Former Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov, in an interview with journalist Dorin Galben, stated that Russia is manipulating the Transnistrian region to create instability in Moldova. He explained that Moscow is artificially inducing a humanitarian disaster on the left bank of the Dniester, causing the region’s population to suffer. The ultimate goal, he said, is to incite dissatisfaction on the right bank of the Dniester, where Moldovans are feeling the impact of rising tariffs.
