(VIDEO) The President of the Latvian Parliament reiterates support for Moldova’s EU accession. Grosu: A partner and an example

Daiga Mierina, the Speaker of the Saeima of Latvia, states that Latvia is a partner to the Republic of Moldova in its EU accession process. During her official visit to the Republic of Moldova, she emphasized the importance of reforms and strengthening democracy.

She emphasized that Latvia’s support for Moldova continues to be strong diplomatically and financially. According to her, the friendship groups between the two countries will continue dialogue to advance bilateral cooperation.

”We must remember that democracy costs and requires constant care and maintenance,” stated Daiga Mierina, adding that as a result of the efforts made, living standards will improve. She also shared the example of her own country, which implemented administrative reform and reduced the number of jurisdictions from 500 to 119, then to 42, to optimize resources.

Additionally, Mierina touched on media independence, highlighting that the press must have access to independent funding and contribute to fostering critical thinking in society.

”Moldova wants to become part of the European Union because that is where we belong, alongside friends and partners, in our family. Latvia is a strong supporter of this journey, and it serves as a model,” stated Igor Grosu.

Daiga Mierina is in the Republic of Moldova from April 14-15. On Tuesday, the Latvian official will visit the Ungheni district.
