The National Police of the Republic of Moldova announced that they detained Vlad Plahotniuc in Athens. Law enforcement officials said Interpol communicated this information to authorities in Chisinau.
The Moldovan Police stated, “Just recently, official Interpol channels in Athens, Greece, informed us that they detained two Moldovan citizens. One of them is Vladimir Plahotniuc.”
Plahotniuc has been internationally wanted since 2019, when he fled the Republic of Moldova. Interpol placed the former Democratic Party leader on its wanted list. He has used aliases such as Vladislav Novak and Vito Perez Gonzalez.

According to sources cited by Realitatea, the police also detained former Member of Parliament Constantin Tutu alongside Plahotniuc.
