Voda: The EU Growth Plan’s funds will boost Moldova’s economy

The European Union’s €1.9 billion Growth Plan for Moldova represents a significant investment in the country’s economic development and long-term prosperity. The first installment—worth €270 million—will fund already-budgeted priority projects, government spokesperson Daniel Voda announced on the TV program The Fourth Power.

“The Growth Plan means roads, schools, heating, and entrepreneurship. It’s a real economic boost and a clear investment in Moldova’s future,” Voda emphasized.

According to the spokesperson, authorities have already begun modernization work on 200 kilometers of regional roads and 100 kilometers of local roads.

Another key priority is school infrastructure. A portion of the funds will finance the renovation and setup of canteens in every school across the country, ensuring that over 295,000 schoolchildren receive free meals starting September 1.

Energy efficiency and interconnection with Romania also feature prominently in the plan. The government will use the funds to modernize residential buildings in Chisinau, Balti, and Comrat, helping residents reduce heating costs.

Additionally, the plan provides direct support for entrepreneurs, including grants and equipment, with dedicated programs for women entrepreneurs and the HoReCa sector.

The €1.9 billion Growth Plan stands as the most substantial support package the EU has ever granted to Moldova. It includes grants for investments, technical assistance, and credit guarantees. The package also foresees up to €1.5 billion in loans, which will be disbursed based on progress in implementing key reforms.

The first Moldova–European Union bilateral summit, held in Chișinău last week, marked a significant step forward. During the summit, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announced the disbursement of the first €270 million installment. European officials also expressed hope that all negotiation chapters for EU accession will open “as soon as possible.”
