President Maia Sandu described the Russian Federation’s attacks on civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine as a “war crime,” stressing that they directly affect the Republic of Moldova.
“Russia’s attacks on civilian energy infrastructure in Ukraine constitute a war crime—and an attack on all of us. The overnight strikes disrupted Moldova’s main energy connection with Europe. There are alternative routes, but the situation remains fragile. The responsibility lies solely with the Russian Federation,” Sandu said.
Authorities reported that the Isaccea–Vulcănești power line remained disconnected as of the morning of March 24. The national transmission system operator Moldelectrica, working with operators from Romania and Ukraine, activated alternative supply routes overnight to maintain electricity delivery.

Authorities are using four 110 kV interconnection lines between Romania and Moldova to ensure the stability of the national energy system.
In this context, officials urge citizens to use electricity responsibly, especially during peak hours, to avoid overloading transmission and distribution networks, including cross-border high-voltage lines.
