Moldova will not produce drones for Ukraine, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu said. He noted that Moldova itself needs unmanned aerial vehicles, including equipment with dual-use capabilities.

The Parliament speaker believes such equipment could be used in emergency situations and could also be provided to rescue services.

“I would very much like us to produce them for ourselves. We need them for dual-use purposes. They can be used in emergency situations, by the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, and in agriculture as well. We should produce them for ourselves,” Igor Grosu said.

His comments came after rumors emerged that the production of drones for neighboring Ukraine had allegedly been discussed during the Parliament’s closed-door session.

On October 8, lawmakers held a closed-door meeting to examine changes to the size of the National Army. The discussions were not held publicly because they involved classified information, according to the lawmakers.

MPs were not allowed to enter the session with mobile phones, laptops, smartwatches or recording devices, nor were they allowed to take notes. They received printed copies of the draft’s annexes before the meeting and were required to return them at the end of the discussions. The printed documents are to be destroyed.
