Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu met with the co-rapporteurs of the Monitoring Committee of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), Pierre-Alain Fridez and Zanda Kalniņa-Lukaševica, who are on a fact-finding visit to the Republic of Moldova. It was reported by the Communication and Public Relations Department of the Parliament.
The main topic discussed was the current situation in the judiciary, with the head of the legislature stating that our country is in the process of evaluating the integrity of judges and prosecutors, as well as candidates for the post of prosecutor general. “It is a difficult process, which takes time, but we are determined to see it through. Justice reform and cleaning the judiciary system of corrupt officials remains the legislature’s top priority”, Igor Grosu stressed.
According to the speaker, the current parliamentary session will examine and approve the Code of Conduct and Ethics for Members of Parliament and the Code of Parliamentary Rules and Procedures, which will make it clear that political patronage is not allowed.
Officials also referred in their discussions to the fight against disinformation and how important it is to strengthen the capacities of the state to become more resilient. They also exchanged views on the actions of the Chisinau authorities in the European integration process.

“Together with the new Minister for European Integration, with my colleagues in the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration, and with the 35 sectoral working groups, we will work side by side to prepare the Republic of Moldova for accession to the European Union and to promote draft laws to harmonize national legislation with EU legislation,” the Speaker said.
PACE co-rapporteurs also held separate discussions with members of the parliamentary majority and opposition, as well as with the Moldovan Parliament’s delegation at PACE.
