The building of the former girls’ gymnasium founded by Princess Natalia Dadiani

The building of the former girls’ gymnasium founded by Princess Natalia Dadiani is a national architectural monument located at 115 ’31 August 1989′ street in Chișinău, and currently houses the National Museum of Art of Moldova. The two-and-a-half-story building was constructed in 1901. It was based on a design by architect Alexandru Bernardazzi and commissioned by Princess Natalia Dadiani. Dadiani founded and led this institution until her death in 1903. The building served as the headquarters for Girls’ Gymnasium No. 2 until the Second World War, during which the front part was heavily damaged.

After the war, it was rebuilt and served as the headquarters for the Central Committee of the Communist Party of the Moldavian SSR until 1964, after which it became the Pioneer Palace, while the left wing housed the Republican Society “Science.”
