The Republic of Moldova will receive a grant from the United States to strengthen energy security and reimburse the cost of purchasing electricity. The amount is 220 million dollars.
The Cabinet of Ministers approved the start of negotiations and the signing of the fifteenth amendment to the Development Assistance Agreement between the governments of the Republic of Moldova and the United States to ensure sustainable economic growth. The document provides for the allocation of funds as a gratuitous contribution within the framework of the Agreement on Strengthening the Energy Security of the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, conditions will be set for another non-refundable support of $76.8 million offered by the US Agency for International Development. The amount is allocated for reimbursement of expenses for the purchasing of electricity from suppliers from Ukraine and ENTSO-E Euronetwork countries from September 2022 to March 2023.
This amendment will be signed by the Ministry of Finance and USAID. Then the document must be ratified by the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova.
