Henley Passport Index: Where Does Moldova Rank?

According to the Henley Passport Index, based on their own research for the year 2023, Singapore holds the title of the “strongest” passport, granting Singaporeans visa-free access to 193 countries. The Republic of Moldova is in 51st place, with Moldovans having access to 121 countries.

Germany, Italy, and Spain have risen to the 2nd position, with visa-free access to 190 countries. The 3rd position is shared by six countries: Austria, Luxembourg, Finland, France, Sweden, South Korea, and Japan (with 189 visa-free destinations).

For the first time in five years, Japan is no longer leading the ranking of the world’s most powerful passports. Romania is ranked 14th in this index, along with its neighbors Bulgaria, both having visa-free access to 177 countries.

At the bottom of the ranking is Afghanistan’s passport, which allows its holders to freely enter only 27 countries worldwide.

The Henley & Partners Passport Index is an international ranking of countries based on the level of freedom of movement they provide to their citizens. The index analyzes visa rules of over 200 countries and territories and ranks them based on the number of countries citizens can enter without prior visa arrangements (visa-free or visa-on-arrival). The country’s position in the ranking is determined by the number of countries its citizens can enter without the need for visa formalities.
