Minister of Energy, Victor Parlicov, had a meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bulgaria, Maria Gabriel, a former European Commissioner. The meeting took place on the sidelines of the trilateral summit involving Greece, Bulgaria, and Romania, at the level of prime ministers, where the Moldovan Minister of Energy was also invited to participate.
The Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova in Bulgaria stated, ‘Our relations are based on friendship and mutual support.’ Victor Parlicov thanked Bulgaria for its support in Moldova’s European integration process and welcomed the intensification of high-level contacts and bilateral cooperation, particularly in the energy sector.
At the same time, the parties noted the need to revitalize the work of the Moldovan-Bulgarian intergovernmental joint commission and to boost contacts between businesspeople. In this regard, they agreed to organize a Moldovan-Bulgarian business forum in 2024.
Additionally, the parties agreed on the importance of Bulgaria’s more active involvement in the development process of the southern region of the Republic of Moldova, including the Taraclia district, so that Bulgaria, as a European Union member state, becomes a significant reference point for the region’s residents.
As a first step in this direction, Minister Victor Parlicov agreed with Bulgarian Foreign Affairs Minister Maria Gabriel to sign a cooperation agreement for development between the two countries. The agreement will prioritize cooperation in four areas: sustainable energy and climate; infrastructure development and access to public services; cooperation in education and culture; and cooperation in the field of mass media.
