The progress in implementing judicial reforms has been acknowledged by the European Commissioner for Justice, Didier Reynders. This statement was made during the autumn session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) in response to the intervention of the Vice President of the Parliament, Mihail Popșoi.
Didier Reynders also addressed the vetting of judges and prosecutors and the establishment of an anti-corruption court.
“The real issue is the need to act swiftly in the reform process in Moldova while ensuring full alignment with European standards. Therefore, it is essential to follow the recommendations of the Venice Commission. So, we are trying to maintain this balance. However, we are confident that Moldova is making very good progress, and we closely monitor it, with a strong emphasis on aligning with European standards,” added the European Commissioner for Justice.

At the same time, the Vice President of the Parliament, Mihail Popșoi, expressed appreciation for the support provided by Moldova’s European partners in the process of implementing reforms related to the rule of law. “Despite the challenges of Russian aggression against Ukraine and the attempts of oligarchs who have fled Moldovan justice to destabilize the situation in Moldova, the majority in government is fully committed to rule of law reforms, democracy, and improving the well-being of Moldovan citizens,” Vice President of the Parliament Mihail Popșoi added. He also participated in a debate on the role of the Council of Europe in conflict prevention, restoring the credibility of international institutions, promoting global peace, and ensuring a just peace in Ukraine and sustainable security in Europe.
It should be noted that a delegation from the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova is participating in the autumn session of PACE, which is taking place in Strasbourg from October 9 to 13.
