The European People’s Party fully supports the earliest possible start of the first rounds of negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. MEP Siegfried Mureșan and Prime Minister Dorin Recean discussed this at the Local Dialogue on Enlargement, organised by the EPP Group at the Committee of the Regions in the margins of the EPP Congress in Bucharest, reports IPN.
During the European People’s Party congress in Bucharest, the MEP also held talks with President Maia Sandu. “We, the European People’s Party, are united in calling for the earliest possible start of the first rounds of negotiations on Moldova’s accession to the European Union. The European People’s Party’s election manifesto, which we voted on this evening, clearly states that we support all the accession promises made to the Republic of Moldova”, said Siegfried Muresan.
At the congress, Ursula von der Leyen was elected the European People’s Party candidate for President of the European Commission. “Over the next three months, we will campaign and talk about the good things that the European Commission, led by Ursula von der Leyen, and we, the European Parliament, have achieved for the people, including the adoption of the European Recovery and Resilience Mechanism – the biggest investment plan in the history of the European Union and from which our country receives almost €30 billion, the reduction of energy dependence on the Russian Federation and the decision to start accession negotiations with the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine,” Siegfried Muresan added.

The EPP Congress is taking place in Bucharest this week, bringing together thousands of delegates, including EU leaders, heads of state and government and MEPs. The event is also attended by Moldova’s first Moldovan president, Maia Sandu, speaker Igor Grosu, Prime Minister Dorin Recean and a group of Moldovan MPs.
