Seeing myself on the US sanctions list is not a surprise for me. The Bashkan of Gagauzia responded to the sanctions imposed by the United States in this manner.
“It was expected. Exactly as Sandu’s team behaves, so do their handlers. It is disadvantageous for them that we, together with trustworthy partners, improve the living conditions of Moldovans and, in particular, the Gagauz. It is senseless to be afraid of courts, sanctions, and threats. My team and I will not stop before the big goal – the life improvement for my people and my country,” Gutsul wrote on social networks.

On June 12, the United States announced sanctions against Eugenia Aleksandrovna Gutsul, the Bashkan of the Gagauzia region, as an active facilitator of fugitive convicted oligarch Ilan Shor and his Shor Party, and their Kremlin-backed illegal political interference efforts. These sanctions include blocking any property in the United States or the possession or control of U.S. persons; prohibiting transactions with U.S. persons or within or transiting the United States; prohibiting providing or receiving funds, goods, or services; and making Ms. Gutsul ineligible to enter the United States.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean has commented on the US sanctions imposed against Eugenia Gutsul, the Bashkan of Gagauzia, for active collaboration with fugitive oligarch Ilan Shor.
“The US imposed sanctions today against Eugenia Gutsul for involvement in hybrid actions against the Republic of Moldova and its citizens, financed with money from criminal sources. The decision follows effective cooperation with our external partners, and we will continue to take decisive action to counter corruption and threats to national security.
Interference aims to spread disinformation, perpetuate corruption, destabilize, and hijack democratic processes in Moldova.
The prompt reaction of the US should serve as an example for the Moldovan judiciary to do its duty and defend the interest of the country and our citizens”, said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
