The capacity of Chisinau International Airport is up to five million passengers annually, and currently, the number exceeds 3 million. According to the Minister of Infrastructure, the authorities have up to five years to build a new terminal.
Andrei Spinu made the statement in an interview published by Nonfiction. He explained that the authorities are currently working on a feasibility study to determine precisely what needs to be built.
“We have a maximum of 3-5 years to build a new terminal, a new parking lot, and other necessary buildings. We will not rush merely to get it done. We need to do it right. When you build a terminal, you are not just building a villa. It’s a major infrastructure project,” said Spinu.
Referring to new flights from Chisinau, the minister mentioned that efforts are underway to increase the number of routes to Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Belgium. However, he hesitated to name specific airlines and destinations to avoid creating unrealistic expectations.
