The Central Election Commission registered the first presidential candidate in Moldova

The Central Electoral Commission (CEC) approved the registration of Alexandr Stoianoglo as a candidate for Moldova’s presidency today. The Moldovan Party of Socialists (PSRM) nominated him.

The CEC also registered his electoral symbol for inclusion on the presidential election ballot and confirmed the person responsible for his campaign finances.

Additionally, the CEC registered the Alliance of Liberals and Democrats for Europe Political Party as a participant in the Republican constitutional referendum on 20 October 2024, with the party endorsing the “YES” option.

However, the CEC rejected the draft decisions to register initiative groups supporting independent presidential candidates Avelin Tabarcea and Valentin Borodachi, as their applications did not receive the required votes.

The presidential election in Moldova will be on 20 October 2024, alongside the republican constitutional referendum. Citizens will be asked, “Do you support the amendment of the Constitution for Moldova’s accession to the European Union?”
