The Largest Book Donation: The Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) offers 100,000 volumes

The largest donation of Romanian-language books will arrive in the Republic of Moldova. The Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) has acquired nearly 100,000 physical books and an equal number in digital format. Consequently, 300 public libraries will receive a new collection of books.

The project “Books in Romanian for Libraries in the Republic of Moldova” is the largest cultural initiative undertaken by Romania in the Republic of Moldova in the last 30 years. This project aims to support and develop the Romanian ethnic, cultural, and linguistic identity while also contributing to the education of the new generation.

Public libraries in the Republic of Moldova face a significant problem: they lack new Romanian-language books. Most of the current books are old and damaged. Representatives from the National Library of the Republic of Moldova highlight that citizens are eager for Romanian books, and providing new titles would encourage reading among youth and adults.

This project aims to support and develop the Romanian ethnic, cultural, and linguistic identity while also contributing to the education of the new generation in the Republic of Moldova.

“The promotion and cultivation of the Romanian language in the Republic of Moldova is a priority for DRRM, and I am pleased that we have managed to allocate a budget of approximately 4 million RON for the purchase of valuable books written in Romanian by both classic and contemporary authors, both Romanian and foreign,” states Adrian Dupu, the Secretary of State of DRRM.
