(VIDEO) Adrian Dupu: If the EU and Romania had not invested in the Republic of Moldova, the outcome of the referendum could have been different

Adrian Dupu, the Secretary of State for the Department for Relations with the Republic of Moldova (DRRM) in the Romanian Government, stated that if the European Union and Romania had not invested in the Republic of Moldova, the referendum’s outcome might have been different. He emphasized that, alongside the substantial support from Brussels and Bucharest, there is also strong Russian propaganda on the left bank of the Prut River.

During the show “Rezoomat” with Ileana Pirgaru, the official stated that it would be inaccurate to claim that the majority in some localities voted against including the objective of European integration in the Constitution, especially since the referendum results were very close. At the same time, according to the Romanian Secretary of State, no one expected all Moldovans to be pro-EU.

“Yes, there have been major investments in Ungheni and Gagauzia. If those investments hadn’t occurred, the score might have been 80 to 20. We should remember that there is also the other side, which invests heavily in propaganda. We are not alone in this struggle, as seen in the results. The important thing is that the referendum was adopted at the national level, and it passed with a ‘YES’ vote,” stated the head of the DRRM.

We remind you that on October 20, 2024, citizens of the Republic of Moldova expressed their support for including the objective of European integration in the Constitution during the Republican Constitutional referendum. Approximately 50.3% of the citizens who participated in the vote agreed to amend the Supreme Law.
