(VIDEO) Shor has lost another 50 million lei, and 28 individuals have been arrested. Details from the Prosecutor’s Office

Prosecutor General Ion Munteanu claims Russian special services developed the scheme to corrupt Moldovan voters during the presidential elections and constitutional referendum outside the Republic of Moldova. In a press conference, Munteanu stated that over 800 searches were conducted in the context of these two elections, 28 individuals were detained, and approximately 50 million lei belonging to Shor were seized. The statements were broadcast live on Monday, October 28, on Rlive.md.

“The scheme was developed outside the country, specifically by Russian special services. Investigators found that members of the primary local organizations of certain political parties in Moldova received the funds. These individuals receive monthly payments to bribe voters to vote for a specific candidate, who was announced just one day before the October 20 elections by members of the Political Party ‘Sansa’ or the ‘Victoria’ Bloc. Organizers used the payments to fund rallies, flash mobs, and protest actions. (…)

Specialized and territorial prosecutor’s offices, together with the law enforcement agencies of the General Police Inspectorate and particularly with the National Investigation Inspectorate, conducted over 800 searches, executed more than 380 special investigative measures, detained over 28 individuals, seized more than 50 million lei, and assigned the status of accused to over 35 individuals,” mentioned Ion Munteanu.

In the same conference, the Prosecutor General emphasized that some lawyers affiliated with the fugitive Ilan Shor are hindering the work of the prosecutors.

“Every stage is challenged by lawyers, including on absurd grounds, such as disagreement with the summons actions by law enforcement or the prosecutor. (…) We have the time, resources, power, and patience. We will respect all procedural rights of the offender, suspect, accused, or defendant, but the law will be applied strictly and fairly, despite all the types of procedures used by the perpetrators and their defenders,” said the Prosecutor General.

Previously, law enforcement officials stated that individuals who cooperate with the investigation and provide information will be exempt from paying fines, according to the law.
