The 24 children from the “Opincuta” ensemble from Vishniovca, Cantemir, promote local culture and traditions

Earlier this year, eight civil society organizations launched local initiatives to strengthen the role of civil society and create positive community impact. The German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) funded these initiatives through the regional project “Strengthening Civil Society in Eastern Partnership Countries.” Among them is the Public Association “Green Team” from Vishniovca, Cantemir district, which implemented the project “National Costume – Unity and Tradition” for the benefit of 24 children in the “Opincuta” Ensemble.

“This project promotes the folk traditions of our Moldovan heritage,” says Tatiana SaviÈ›chi, project coordinator of “Green Team.” “We chose it specifically for the students of our institution, who didn’t have national costumes unique to our region. Previously, we had to borrow old costumes from the local House of Culture or neighboring communities for events and festivals.”

The project enabled the purchase of 24 traditional costumes—12 each for girls and boys— and a portable speaker and microphones for the folklore ensemble.

“Through the CONTACT Center’s program, eight NGOs received funding, including the “Green Team” here in Vishniovca. With the project “National Costume – Unity and Tradition,” we aimed to educate children about Moldovan values, culture, and traditions. These costumes help them connect with their heritage and pass on these values,” shares Anishoara Bezarau, Grant Manager at CONTACT Center.

Cultural projects like this one in Vishniovca actively promote authentic traditions and instill a love of culture and community in the younger generation.

“As a historian, I understand that history, tradition, and the future are intertwined. Preserving our traditions is essential for building a shared future. Your cultural heritage is invaluable, and I thank you for safeguarding these traditions that you can take pride in. I am confident you will also share and promote them in Europe,” remarks Verena Zell, Head of Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Moldova.

The CONTACT Center produced this video as part of the project “Strong Civil Society for Local Development,” funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) under the regional initiative “Strengthening Civil Society in the Eastern Partnership Countries.”
