Prime Minister Vasile Tofan took part in a 6.5-kilometer swimming race across the Bosphorus together with his son. The race started on the Asian side of Istanbul and finished on the European side.

Both Tofan and his son successfully completed the challenge. The prime minister’s son finished ahead of him, covering the distance in approximately one hour and 13 minutes, while Tofan reached the finish line after around one hour and 42 minutes.

Tofan said participating in the race was a promise he had made to his son in January. The young man had been preparing for the challenge for almost a year.

“In January, I promised my son that we would swim across the Bosphorus together. He had been preparing for this race for almost a year, and I could not break my promise,” Tofan said.

The prime minister said his son finishing ahead of him was one of the most rewarding moments for a parent.

“My son was faster than me – and few things make a parent happier than seeing their child surpass them,” Tofan said.

After completing the race, the prime minister said the experience had left them energized and that they were returning to Chisinau with their “batteries charged and hearts full.”

“There is a lot of work waiting for us at home,” Tofan concluded.

Government spokesperson Dumitru Ciorici clarified that all travel expenses for the prime minister, his family members and the entire team were fully covered from Tofan’s personal funds.
