On the eve of the presidential elections, Maia Sandu, aiming for a second term as president of the Republic of Moldova, met with Ion Ceban, the mayor of Chisinau. In a post on her official Facebook account, Sandu stated that she talked with Mayor Ceban about how the development of Chisinau can only happen through closer ties with the European Union and within a democratic framework.
“The victory of Moldova in the referendum, with the ‘YES’ option supported by 56% of Chisinau residents, shows that citizens majority choose European integration. The voice of the people is the most important. We must unite, regardless of political ideology, to protect democracy and free elections,” stated Maia Sandu in her message.
Mayor Ion Ceban also shared a message in this regard. In his post, Ceban stated that he spoke with Maia Sandu about the projects implemented in Chisinau, the need for European funds to develop the city, and the importance of preserving democracy in our country.
“I reiterated that elections must be free and fair and that citizens should democratically choose their leaders. We are against any abuses, violations, and vote-buying.”
“I conveyed the message regarding the issues and requests of mayors from all over the country. In these discussions, I addressed topics and proposals aimed at improving the work of Local Public Administrations and benefiting all citizens. We have a vision and know how to change things more quickly and efficiently.

I reiterated that the following are necessary: the implementation of the national project for the construction of the Chisinau bypass; the establishment of community policing in all localities of the Republic of Moldova; the promotion and approval of the project regarding parking in Chisinau and throughout the country; the return to the subject we proposed concerning corporate taxes that should remain at 50% in the local budget of the municipalities of Chisinau and Balti, as currently, these two municipalities are treated discriminatorily compared to other localities; similarly, I mentioned the recommendations and appeal made by mayors during the previous parliamentary elections regarding the recognition and inclusion of decentralization and local autonomy as a governmental priority. I discussed the controls initiated by state authorities over local mayors and the fabrication of integrity files.
I appreciated the message from Ms. Maia Sandu, who promised to revise the ANI law to prevent such situations in the future. I remain committed to developing Chisinau and the Republic of Moldova on its path towards European integration. On November 3rd, we will go out to vote,” stated the mayor.
Previously, Ion Ceban spoke with Alexandr Stoianoglo, the Socialist candidate for the presidency of the country.
We remind you that on Sunday, November 3, citizens of the Republic of Moldova will be called to the polls to choose their future president in the second round of voting. It will be the battle of the year between the government candidate, Maia Sandu, and the Socialist candidate, Alexandr Stoianoglo.
