Maia Sandu, congratulated by European leaders for her election victory: “Europe will continue to stand by Moldova”

Several world leaders congratulated Maia Sandu, re-elected President of the Republic of Moldova. They said, “Democracy triumphed over Russian interference.”

European Parliament President Roberta Metsola said Europe will continue to stand by Moldova on this journey.

“Congratulations to Mrs. Maia Sandu, who has led the fight for democracy, the rule of law, and a European future by being re-elected President. She has shown courage and extraordinary leadership to stand up for her people. Europe will continue to stand by Moldova on this journey,” wrote Roberta Metsola on X (formerly Twitter).

The President of the European Council, Charles Michel, also came with a congratulatory message.

“Congratulations, dear President Maia Sandu, on your victory in the presidential elections in Moldova. The people of Moldova have reaffirmed their confidence in your leadership, stability, and commitment to a European future,” said Charles Michel.

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz wrote – “Maia Sandu has led the Republic of Moldova successfully through difficult times and has set the country on a European course.”

“We stand by the Republic of Moldova. Congratulations on your re-election as President,” Olaf Scholz remarked.

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk emphasized that democracy triumphed despite all Russian interference.

“Despite Russia’s aggressive and massive interference in Moldova’s presidential elections, Maia Sandu defeated Moscow’s favorite. Let us hope that this trend will continue in the coming days and months in other countries,” Donald Tusk said.

According to the preliminary data of the Central Electoral Commission, PAS candidate Maia Sandu received 55.41% of the votes, while PSRM candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo – 44.59%. More than 1 million 699 thousand voters voted in the second round of the presidential elections, i.e. 54.33% of the number of citizens registered in the electoral rolls.
