MFA ironizes Russians who think our elections undemocratic: We wish them to enjoy the rights that Moldovans have

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) in Chisinau responds ironically to the Kremlin’s accusations that the elections in Moldova were “undemocratic.” Moldovan diplomats see such allegations as a continuation of Russian interference in the electoral process in our country.

The MFA representatives note that the narratives are false and that the elections in Moldova complied with national and international standards, confirmed by the observation missions. At the same time, the Chisinau authority describes Moscow officials’ comments as lacking credibility.

“These clumsy attempts to cast doubt on the legitimacy of the elections are nothing but the continuation of malign interference in our internal affairs. We condemn these reprehensible actions and find them unacceptable, especially from a state recognized as an anti-example of democracy.

Commentators among the Russian authorities are not credible when they criticize democratic processes about which they have only theoretical knowledge.

However, we wish the Russian citizens to enjoy all the fundamental rights and freedoms enjoyed by the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” reads the statement sent from Chisinau.

On November 5, the spokesperson for Russian diplomacy claimed that, in her view, the election was “undemocratic,” alleging that the Russian-language press faced persecution and that the opposition suffered repression.
