“Moldova stands with Ukraine. Moldova stands with freedom. And together, we will do everything to ensure that true peace prevails.”
These are the words from President Maia Sandu’s speech, delivered via an online intervention at the summit in Kyiv, Ukraine, where leaders from 13 countries are gathered.
In her address, the head of state emphasized the importance of international unity in restoring a real, lasting peace in Europe so that this war becomes history.
“I remember that morning three years ago. It was 4 AM. I read the news in horror. I woke up, went to the office, and from there, I heard the explosions. Odesa… maybe Vinnytsia. At that moment, no one knew where the next bomb would hit.
Today, however, we know that Ukraine’s courage has ensured Moldova’s safety and peace. The bravery and sacrifice of the Ukrainian people have protected us from war. For that, we will always be grateful. And we will never forget.

Three years later, Russia’s brutal and criminal war continues. The Kremlin’s aggression has brought suffering and destruction on a scale Europe has not seen since World War II. Just yesterday, Ukraine was hit by the most massive drone attack since the invasion began. Russia is not seeking peace. And yet, the world speaks of peace. But peace must be just, lasting, and authentic. A compromised peace that ignores Ukraine’s security or sidelines Europe will not end the threat—it will only delay it. A false peace—one that allows Putin to regroup, rearm, and invade again—is not peace. That is why we must remain united. Russia aims to sow divisions among allies, nations, and within societies. We, on the other hand, must stand together. Security guarantees are essential to ensure history does not repeat itself. To ensure that Putin can no longer deceive the world. To ensure that Russia no longer brings death to other nations. The world needs actual security guarantees—clear, strong, and effectively enforceable.
Moldova supports these efforts. We stand with Ukraine in securing concrete guarantees that will bring lasting peace. We support measures that strengthen Ukraine’s security and prevent future aggression. It is not just about Ukraine—it is about the security. And let it be clear: Putin will not stop at Ukraine. That is why our response must be firm. Ukraine is not fighting just for itself. It is fighting for all of us. As long as Ukraine resists, Moldova resists, Europe resists. Let us make sure that we do not just watch—we act. Moldova stands with Ukraine. Moldova stands with freedom. And together, we will do everything to ensure that true peace prevails. Slava Ukraini!”
It was the message conveyed by the head of state.
Three years after the war in Ukraine began, leaders from 13 countries are meeting in Kyiv on the 24th of February to reaffirm their support for the country under Russian attack. Another 24 international leaders will join via videoconference at a crucial moment in the conflict.
The war, which the Kremlin has continuously called a “special military operation for the denazification and demilitarization” of its neighboring state that refuses to submit, stretches across hundreds of kilometers of front lines, has devastated various regions, killed tens of thousands, and displaced millions.
