Romania and Moldova assert that Ukraine must participate in any decision on peace and its future, with appropriate security guarantees in place. Romania’s Acting President, Ilie Bolojan, made this statement today after meeting with Moldova’s head of state, Maia Sandu. Both officials reaffirmed their support for a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine.
“Romania and Moldova emphasize that Ukraine must be involved in any decision regarding peace and its future and that security guarantees are essential. The way Ukraine achieves peace will decisively impact our shared security,” Ilie Bolojan stated.
The Romanian official also warned that without solutions for lasting peace, any unstable ceasefire could serve only as a brief pause.
“Without securing a lasting peace, any fragile ceasefire may provide only temporary calm. If Russia continues its expansionist ambitions in the coming years, we must anticipate the possibility of renewed conflict, with Ukraine as only the first victim. We must work toward a lasting peace,” he said.
