Although Victoria Furtuna holds Romanian citizenship, she criticized unionists celebrating the Union of Bessarabia with Romania. She claimed they were marking an “occupation decided in foreign offices.”
Furthermore, Furtuna argued that the vote for the union was imposed “at gunpoint.” She also claimed that authorities executed deputies from Bessarabia during the voting period.
“What are you celebrating today in Chisinau, brothers? Are you celebrating the day the Romanian army forcibly entered the Moldavian Democratic Republic? (…) Are you celebrating a vote dictated at gunpoint? (…) Are you celebrating the dissolution of our republic and an occupation decided by others in foreign offices?” Furtuna stated in a video message.

Victoria Furtuna was a candidate in the 2024 presidential elections. In her 2023 asset declaration, she listed child allowances received from the Romanian state.

The total amount reached 6,000 RON, according to the declaration. A review of her asset declarations, published on the official website of the National Integrity Authority, shows that she has been reporting these allowances since 2016.
Victoria Furtuna’s “Moldovenist” Rhetoric
Despite holding Romanian citizenship, Furtuna insists that Moldovan is the official language of the Republic of Moldova. She has promoted various manipulative or false claims regarding the language issue, Romanian officials appointed in Moldova, and the alleged erosion of the country’s sovereignty.
During her electoral campaign, she filmed herself near the Tiraspol tank monument. She also met with former Russian ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov, claimed that NATO decides who governs Romania and Moldova, and argued that students should study the history of Moldova rather than Romania.
