The Shor group tries to turn the Gagauz autonomy into ”Shor autonomy.” President Maia Sandu made this statement during a talk show on Jurnal TV and warned that this trend harms the people living in the region.
“I see that the Shor group wants to turn the Gagauz autonomy into the Shor autonomy, and this trend deeply harms the people in the region. I hope the healthy forces there manage to explain the risks to the public — especially now that some consequences are already visible. Those who made big promises have failed to deliver.
We must analyze the situation and not rely solely on GRT, which spreads heavy propaganda for the Shor group using state money. The situation there shows that the Shor group is trying to take absolute control of local power and use the region’s autonomy to destabilize the Republic of Moldova. We have enough evidence and proof of this,” Maia Sandu stated.
The head of state pointed out that some politicians in Gagauzia understand the situation and disagree with what is happening. They struggle to compete with those who receive bags of money from the Shor group.

”This political competition is neither fair nor honest when one side tries to promote ideas and reach citizens while the other brings in bags of money and tries to buy their support,” Sandu added.
When asked if the actions in Gagauzia coordinate with those in Tiraspol, Maia Sandu said the separatist leaders in Tiraspol act more cautiously.
“I wouldn’t say I’ve seen such coordination — maybe there were attempts — but in Tiraspol, I noticed a more cautious attitude because Ukraine is so close. I got the feeling that, during this period, politicians in the Transnistrian region felt the danger of war more strongly than some of the politicians in Gagauzia,” she said.
