Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a ceasefire in Ukraine to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the victory in World War II, IPN reports.
According to a statement on the Kremlin’s website, the ceasefire will begin at midnight between May 7 and May 8 and continue until midnight between May 10 and May 11. During this period, all military actions will pause.
The Kremlin said it made the decision for “humanitarian considerations” and urged the Ukrainian side to “follow this example.” The announcement also warned that if Ukraine violates the ceasefire, Russia’s armed forces will respond “adequately and effectively.”

The statement emphasized that Russia remains ready for peace negotiations “without preconditions” but insisted that talks address the “root causes” of the conflict.
This ceasefire is not Moscow’s first unilateral move. Earlier, Putin declared a Ceasefire during Orthodox Easter, which lasted from April 19 at 6:00 PM until April 21 at midnight. Ukraine supported that initiative, and President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed Kyiv’s willingness to extend the truce if true calm prevailed. However, the Kremlin later rejected the extension proposal.
The new ceasefire comes amid ongoing hostilities and growing international calls for a sustainable resolution to the war.
