Putin’s Special Address to Moldova and Georgia Ahead of May 9: “Let’s Not Allow Discord to Be Sown…”

Vladimir Putin addressed the people of several countries, including the Republic of Moldova, on the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II. The Russian leader sent a special message to Moldovan and Georgian citizens.

The Russian presidential administration reported that Putin congratulated the leaders of Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ossetia, and Israel on May 9. Regarding Moldova and Georgia, officials stated that the Russian president sent messages to the “peoples” of these countries.

The Kremlin’s press service noted that in his speeches to the peoples of Georgia and Moldova, Vladimir Putin urged them to preserve the strong traditions of friendship and mutual support passed down from previous generations. He called on them to remember their common heritage and not allow division between friends.

In previous years, the Russian leader sent letters to the Moldovan president on national holidays. Before the war in Ukraine, Maia Sandu also sent congratulatory messages to him on various occasions.

In 2022, after Putin sent greetings ahead of May 9, Sandu stated that Moldova did not need the Russian president’s congratulations, but peace instead.
