Latvia and Italy now allow Moldovan citizens to convert their driving licenses without additional exams. Moldovan citizens who reside permanently in either country will be able to exchange their licenses without taking additional exams.
Latvian and Italian citizens living in Moldova will benefit from the same provisions. The Cabinet of Ministers approved the agreement with Latvia and authorized the signing of the understanding with the Italian government.
According to the Moldovan Government’s press service, both initiatives aim to improve citizens’ mobility, establish an efficient legal framework for license conversion, and strengthen bilateral cooperation in transport and internal affairs.

Currently, Moldova has similar agreements with Israel, Turkey, Albania, Spain, Lithuania, and Greece. French authorities intend to implement the deal shortly. Meanwhile, a joint declaration of intent exists with Germany, but Berlin’s authorities require Moldovan license holders to pass a practical exam to convert their documents.
