Additional €40 Million EBRD Loan for Rehabilitation of Four National Roads

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) will provide an additional 40 million euros in funding to rehabilitate four national roads in the country. Members of the Committee on Foreign Policy and European Integration approved the advisory opinion to initiate negotiations and sign the amendment to the loan agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD for road construction and rehabilitation.

”Once the EBRD grants the additional 40 million euros, total funding will reach 290 million euros. Authorities will allocate the financial resources to rehabilitate national roads under the ‘Road Rehabilitation in Moldova IV’ Project and to provide consultancy services for implementation and technical supervision of the rehabilitation and modernization works,” stated a press release from Parliament.

The funds will support the rehabilitation of road R14; R6 – Codrul Nou – Soroca – Unguri – border with Ukraine, on the Soroca – Arionesti section; road R8.1, R8 – Arionesti – R14, Arionesti – Otaci section; road M3 Chisinau – Comrat – Giurgiulesti – border with Romania, bypass section around Vulcanesti; and road R33 Hincesti – Lapusna – M1.

The Moldovan Legislative ratified the loan agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the EBRD for road construction and rehabilitation in 2013 and has amended it three times since.

Following the negotiation and signing, officials will submit the amendment to Parliament for ratification, as required by procedure.
