Moldova established Father’s Day, which will be celebrated annually on the last Sunday of June. Parliament made the decision today by approving a bill to officially recognize the holiday dedicated to the role of fathers in family and society, IPN reports.
Organizers will hold the first National Father’s Day celebration this Sunday, June 29, in Parliament Square. Between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm, fathers, children, and families can participate in a public event featuring recreational and interactive activities, games, and music.
Government institutions will commemorate the holiday annually by organizing educational, cultural, and social initiatives implemented across both national and local jurisdictions.

MP Doina Gherman, one of the initiative’s authors, emphasized that the project serves two key purposes. First, it seeks to formally acknowledge the significant role fathers play in the upbringing and education of their children. Second, it aims to promote their active and sustained engagement in all aspects of family life.
“My father has always been a source of support, a guide, and an inspiration for me. He truly believed in me and encouraged me to succeed every step of the way. I am certain many fathers in Moldova deserve our recognition and appreciation,” said Doina Gherman.
The MP added that studies show fathers’ involvement in children’s lives leads to better academic performance, lower dropout rates, and a decrease in teenage pregnancies.
The proportion of men actively involved in child-rearing has increased significantly, reaching 68%. Additionally, the number of fathers caring for sick children has doubled over time, now amounting to 33%.
