President Maia Sandu took part in the fourth edition of the Ukraine Recovery Conference, held in Rome under the patronage of Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. The event convened heads of state and government, representatives of European and international institutions, development partners, and civil society actors committed to supporting Ukraine’s reconstruction.
During her speech, President Sandu reaffirmed Moldova’s unwavering support for Ukraine, stressing that Moldova’s welfare and security are intrinsically linked to the stability and future of its neighbor.
“Moldova is ready to play an active role in Ukraine’s reconstruction,” the president said, emphasizing the country’s strategic position as a southern corridor for delivering construction materials and equipment to key Ukrainian regions such as Odesa, Mykolaiv, Kherson, Dnipro, and Zaporizhzhia.

“Planning reconstruction while the war continues is not easy—but it sends an essential message: Ukraine is not only resisting, but is preparing to rebuild. To thrive,” Sandu told the conference attendees.
She urged the international community to increase support for Ukraine, underlining that successful reconstruction depends on continued resistance. “For Ukraine’s reconstruction to take place, Ukraine must resist. And for Ukraine to resist, it needs more military support—and quickly,” she warned.
President Sandu also highlighted Moldova’s role as a reliable security partner in the region. “As we approach parliamentary elections and face increasingly aggressive Russian interference, we cannot afford for the 1,200 kilometers of the border with Ukraine to become a hostile frontier,” she noted.
The Ukraine Recovery Conference, now in its fourth year, was hosted by the Italian government. Previous editions took place in the United Kingdom (2024), Germany (2023), and Switzerland (2022).
