The Government Warns of Growing Russian Provocations Against Moldovan Citizens

Government spokesperson Daniel Voda warned today of a recent surge in provocative actions by the Russian Federation targeting Moldovan citizens.

In response, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) has issued a travel alert, highlighting the real risks faced by Moldovans currently in, or planning to travel to, Russia. The ministry noted potential difficulties in accessing consular services.

Voda stated that “official Russian institutions often release unverifiable information from independent sources, accompanied by so-called ‘incomplete or distorted evidence.’” He emphasized that public messages from the Russian Federation “should be approached with caution in the absence of objective confirmation.”

“Moldova maintains a firm stance: these practices are part of a series of destabilizing actions aimed at dragging our country into information warfare. We will not succumb to these provocations. Our priority remains the safety and well-being of our citizens,” Voda said.

He called on Moldovan citizens currently in Russia to stay in contact with the Moldovan Embassy in Moscow and to seek consular assistance when needed.

“Moldova remains firmly committed to peace, unity, and building a forward-looking society. We will not let hostile acts or fabricated media narratives derail this path,” Voda concluded.

Her statement comes as Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSS) reports the detention of a Moldovan man in Ryazan on charges of spying for Ukraine.

According to the FSS, the individual allegedly transmitted classified information about strategic military infrastructure in Russia to Ukrainian intelligence services. The FSS claims the suspect acted “in the interest of GUR (Main Directorate of Intelligence of Moldova),” but did not disclose further details regarding the man’s identity or the circumstances of his arrest.
