The Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, is participating in the World Conference of Parliament Speakers, held from July 29 to 31 at the Palace of Nations—the UN headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland.
The conference agenda features a plenary debate and several panel discussions on inter-parliamentary cooperation, progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030, the role of parliaments in the digital era, and the protection of vulnerable groups.
Igor Grosu will deliver a speech emphasizing the essential role of legislative institutions in safeguarding democracy, protecting citizens, and promoting peace.

Ahead of the main event, a summit of women leaders of legislative bodies from around the world will take place, organized in collaboration with the Swiss Parliament.
During the visit, Speaker Grosu will hold bilateral meetings with counterparts from several countries and engage with the Moldovan diaspora in Switzerland.
The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the United Nations organize the World Conference of Parliament Speakers every five years. It serves as a premier platform for dialogue among parliamentary leaders worldwide.
Founded in 1889, the IPU is the world’s first political organization. Today, it unites 181 national parliaments and 15 regional parliamentary bodies, promoting peace, democracy, and sustainable development by strengthening legislative institutions.
