Moldovan Foreign Minister Mihai Popsoi held a farewell meeting with the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, Ambassador Janis Mazeiks, who is completing his four‑year mandate in the country.
The officials reviewed the key developments that shaped Moldova–EU relations between 2021 and 2025. They emphasized the importance of obtaining EU candidate status in June 2022 and launching accession negotiations in June 2025. They also highlighted the crucial role of the Security and Defence Partnership between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union, established in May 2024.
Deputy Prime Minister Popsoi thanked the EU for its support, including through the 2025–2027 Economic Growth Plan, the European Union Partnership Mission in the Republic of Moldova (EUPM), and the European Peace Facility (EPF).
”In a short period, the Republic of Moldova has made significant progress in its relationship with the European Union. From being a neighbouring state, we have become a security partner and a future member of the European Union. We thank the EU Delegation in the Republic of Moldova and Ambassador Janis Mazeiks for contributing to these achievements,” said Mihai Popsoi.
