Unmanned aircraft that illegally cross Moldova’s state border may be destroyed, neutralized, or taken under control by the Air Forces, under the Ministry of Defense. These measures are part of the Law on the Security of the National Airspace, published today in the Official Gazette, MOLDPRES reported.
If drones enter Moldova’s airspace illegally and cannot be intercepted, the Border Police will have the authority to immobilize or destroy them by disabling their command, control, or communication systems.
The law also provides for cases involving civilian or state aircraft with pilots on board. If authorities confirm unauthorized use of national airspace, the Ministry of Defense will ensure protection, in coordination with other institutions responsible for national security.

Drafted by the Ministry of Defense, the law regulates the legal, organizational, and administrative framework for securing Moldova’s airspace. It defines actions required in different airspace situations and establishes institutional competencies for aviation security.
Authorities said the law was necessary due to regional and national security risks, as well as gaps in existing legislation.
The law will take effect on September 1, 2025.
