On the occasion of Moldova’s Independence Day, the Realitatea team has produced a special video report dedicated to one of the country’s most important state symbols – the national flag.
In the report, historian Ion Xenofontov explains the symbolism of the flag’s colors and traces the evolution of this emblem throughout history. He also highlights a little-known tradition: when a state flag becomes worn out, it is not simply discarded but ceremonially burned according to official protocol.
From the heart of state institutions, Victoria Nistor, Head of the Directorate for Parliamentary Assistance and Ceremonial, detailed the strict procedures for storing, preserving, and replacing the tricolor that flies over the Parliament building.

At the same time, Dragos Duca, Head of the Government’s Protocol Service, recalled an incident when the flag raised on the Government building was torn by strong winds during a severe storm, underlining the importance of its proper care and symbolism.
