The folk craftswoman from Musteata village, Falesti district, Svetlana Paladi, creates traditional costumes for artists on both banks of the Prut River. She attended a specialized course in Romania and pursues her work with passion and patience.
Svetlana Paladi weaves catrinte (traditional skirts), braie (belts), and traiste (bags). Admirers of folk costumes in both the Republic of Moldova and Romania cherish her creations, which combine tradition with dedication.
“The desire to weave stayed with me for a long time, but I had no one to learn from. I found an announcement about a course in Romania, and they accepted me,” the craftswoman recalls.

Svetlana Paladi usually creates her works to order and buys raw materials from Ungheni or across the Prut. She sells a traditional catrinta for between 2,000 and 3,000 lei.
Her collection includes two looms, one of which dates back about 60 years. She takes great care of them and emphasizes that weaving connects her with her family’s traditions.
