The Republic of Moldova officially launched the “Electoral Compass”, a digital tool that helps citizens understand the electoral process and identify candidates who share their vision for the country’s future.
The platform, available in Romanian and Russian, uses a questionnaire of 35 questions and statements across different policy areas. Users indicate whether they agree or disagree with each idea, and the tool then generates a personalized electoral map showing which candidates align most closely with their views.
Felix Hett, representative of the Friedrich Ebert Stiftung (FES) in Moldova, said the project strengthens democracy and promotes informed voting. “We want to provide voters with a transparent and accessible instrument to compare their own views with the parties’ positions, beyond electoral rhetoric — it’s like a Google Maps for politics.”

Developers determined party positions through a methodology coordinated by a team of local experts. They analyzed political programs, public statements, and parties’ responses to the same questionnaire. Ana Mihailov, director of FES Moldova, explained: “We built the platform on a rigorous methodology: we studied programs, reviewed public declarations, and sent a detailed questionnaire to parties to reflect their positions as accurately as possible.”
The “Electoral Compass” draws on the international experience of the Kieskompas platform, already used in more than 50 countries to engage young voters and undecided citizens. In Moldova, seven international foundations and political institutes initiated the project, with technical support from Kieskompas and the expertise of a Moldovan academic team.
