Chisinau’s pedestrian alley on Grigore Vieru Street, in the city center, underwent a major renovation as part of a 2022 project. Workers widened and paved the alley, rehabilitated green spaces with new shrubs and flowers, and installed modern benches. They also added an irrigation system for the greenery.

Street lighting was upgraded, improving safety at night, and a video surveillance system was installed. Authorities arranged and marked parking spaces, painted the cast-iron fence on both sides, and adjusted sidewalks to improve access for people with disabilities. Pedestrian crossings were elevated for added safety.

The alley now features ten swings and a fountain with a bronze dove, created in July 2022 by sculptor Veaceslav Jiglițki, an honorary citizen of Chisinau.

A traditional Moldovan carpet design runs along the alley from Eugen Doga pedestrian street to Ierusalim Street, funded by the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA). At the street’s beginning, the national symbol “Tree of Life” was incorporated into the paving.

Authorities removed dozens of advertising panels from the alley and nearby intersections, transforming the area into an attractive destination for both residents and visitors.
