Two audits will establish who is responsible for the theft of Moldovan citizens’ personal data. The announcement was made by Lilian Carp following parliamentary hearings into the cyberattack that took place in October.
The official said one audit will focus on technical aspects and security vulnerabilities, while the second will examine the structure and engineering of the cyberattack. The head of Parliament’s Security Committee said authorities are expected to receive the results of these investigations by the end of November or during December.
“We need to understand whether this was malicious intent, whether the system itself was vulnerable, or whether someone with a little dirt under their fingernails was more involved than they should have been,” Lilian Carp said.
The MP also reported that approximately six million attempts to access government systems were recorded during the attack, compared with an average of between 20,000 and 40,000 per day.
According to Carp, the IP addresses associated with the attack were registered in “exotic countries”.
